There is a joke: Years later, the thing Nadella hates most about Ilya is that he missed the cricket final between India and Australia.
Nadella made every effort to save Microsoft's stock price, but this outcome was the least cool of all possibilities. You have to realize that the difference between Microsoft and OpenAI isn't Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, or even the entire R&D team at OpenAI.
After a dramatic weekend, none of us expected that, at the one-year anniversary of ChatGPT, we would encounter the second major turning point in the field of AI.
Is this an opportunity for Google and Meta? Will we see an open-source version of GPT-4? What will happen to the over one thousand startups built on GPT? Will more people buy GPUs?
...
All I know is that today's AI is the result of collective efforts from the open-source world, including Google, Microsoft, DeepMind, Meta, NVIDIA, and many others.
Perhaps at this time next year, we will have a "world model" from another startup, but the efforts we've put in—past, present, and future—will not simply be erased.
Because the coolest things should seamlessly connect with the coolest things.
Just wait and see!
