For a long time, I only took black and white digital photos—not by converting color photos, but by using a dedicated monochrome camera. A world of only "luminance" is fascinating. Over time, it truly changed my "eyes" to some extent; I didn't just become more sensitive to light, but strangely, I also became more sensitive to color than before.
Although I no longer intentionally shoot only in black and white, I still occasionally immerse myself in the grayscale world of shifting luminance. I also find myself wondering: what did the original color world corresponding to these photos look like?
Indeed, does AI have the ability to "restore" color, thereby proving it "understands" color?
It's simple: I built a small app, which Gemini named ChromaFlash.

It might not be a 100% restoration of the real world, but every detail remains faithful to the input photo, and every color is, at the very least, plausible.
So, does AI truly "understand" color?
But does that even matter?
